[10/26] Serving Those Who Served: Highlights from the Veterans Stand Down Event

2 min read

Every year, community partners come together to support veterans who are navigating hardship, homelessness, or transition. This year’s Stand Down event was a powerful reminder of what community-driven support can achieve.

Together, we had the privilege of connecting with roughly 250 at-risk and homeless veterans to offer immediate assistance, resources, and long-term wellness tools.

Meeting Immediate Needs

Events like the Stand Down are designed to give veterans immediate relief and access to services in one convenient, welcoming space. Over the course of the event, attendees were provided with:

  • Essential Supplies & Vouchers: Distributed clothing, shirts, and food vouchers.

  • Personal Care Services: On-site haircuts and personal hygiene resources.

  • Nourishment: Freshly prepared hot meals served throughout the day.

  • Resource Navigation: Direct access to community programs and support services.

Empowering Veterans Through Mind-Body Wellness

Mental and physical health are deeply interconnected, especially when addressing the impact of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

As part of our mission at The Resilience Project, we led a dedicated educational session titled "Mind-Body Reset: Practical Wellness for Everyday Strength."

During these classes, we focused on practical, non-intrusive wellness habits, including:

  • Accessible Movement: Building sustainable physical habits without overexertion.

  • Rest & Recovery: Establishing reliable sleep routines to assist with stress regulation.

  • Community Connection: Cultivating local support systems to reinforce physical and mental strength.

Grateful for Leadership and Support

An event of this scale requires tremendous coordination and heart. A special shoutout goes to Tim O’Malley, whose steadfast leadership and hard work continue to make this event a success every single year.

Thank you to all the veterans who spent the day with us, as well as the volunteers and organizers who made it all possible.
