[05/23] Honoring Veterans: A Day of Service with The Resilience Project and Fuller Center

Writer's picture: Louie TionghoyLouie Tionghoy

Last Friday, The Resilience Project (TRP) teamed up with the Fuller Center for an incredible day of service, painting homes and honoring the veterans in our community. One of our leaders, Drake, joined alongside fellow volunteers to make a meaningful impact and share in the stories that bind our community together.

Among those we served was Ronald, a Vietnam veteran and former prisoner of war. Meeting Ronald was a profound experience for everyone. As we worked on his home, Ronald shared glimpses of his story—a journey marked by resilience and brotherhood. When he noticed Drake’s tattoos, he was reminded of the men from the 101st Airborne Division who had liberated him decades ago. Weighing only 97 pounds at the time, his life was forever changed by those brave soldiers who fought tirelessly to bring him home.

This encounter reminded us of TRP's mission: veterans supporting veterans, creating a space where service and camaraderie continue long after active duty. Moments like these fuel our dedication to building a supportive community where every veteran feels honored and uplifted.

We are so grateful to everyone who came out to support this effort. Together, we’re building more than just a community—we’re building a legacy of respect and solidarity. Thank you to the Fuller Center, our TRP volunteers, and especially to veterans like Ronald, whose courage and stories inspire us every day.
